I started with one clinic (referred by my OBGYN), did all the preliminary testing, went for our follow-up to talk about treatment plans and next steps. Something in my gut didn’t feel right. I didn’t feel like I trusted the doctor. She was cold and had horrible bed side manner. She basically just read my results from her computer, barely made eye contact, and gave me the worst new of my life like she was providing a weather update. My husband and I left that appointment devastated, scared, and had so many questions. We both agreed that we did not want to return to that clinic. The next day, I started making calls to other clinics to set up new patient consultations.
We met with 2 other clinics and I had a really good feeling with one of them. She was warm, calm, and clearly knowledgeable. My husband felt the same way. From there, we proceeding with more testing and next steps in our fertility journey. The staff was amazing and so friendly. I would go in for bloodwork and ultrasounds and the phlebotomist would ask me about the dogs, my tattoos, and weekend plans. She genuinely cared about the patients from the clinic and it made such a huge difference in our experience. During my second FET, she actually came into the room just to say hi and wish me luck. It was so sweet and meant the world to me.
3 1/2 years later, my husband and I still found ourselves childless and lost as far as what next steps to take. The bills were pilling up and we had run out of insurance benefits to cover any more treatments. One of the positive things that can come out of this journey, is the amazing women you meet along the way. A client of my mother’s had shared with her that she had also struggled with fertility. My mom shared with her that I had been struggling for many years as well. This client was so kind and told my mother that I could call/text her any time if I ever had questions or wanted someone to talk to. Recently I decided to reach out and see how her experience was. She was beyond helpful and gave me hope again. She also recommended that I reach out to the clinic she had been treating with and see what options they may have for me. We are 1 year post our last FET and here we are seeking out our 4th opinion!! Yes.. our 4th!!! When I say, ask the questions…. I truly mean it. This new doctor had so much knowledge and shared his experience and thoughts on my labs and results. He has given me more hope than ever. I truly trusted my previous doctor, but this new doctor has us feeling so confident and hopeful of our ability to start a family.
Im now proceeding with testing for PCOS, insulin resistance, and other factors that may be making it more difficult for me and my husband to conceive. Now we just have to figure out the financials aspects. This is where the research will come in. I will be taking the time to look for grants, loans, and other benefits to help us pay for future treatments. Follow me for more details and to see what options I found.
